An entertaining friendly last Thursday night resulted in Med getting a comfortable 4-0 win over Law. The game, which was watched by a record crowd at UQ St Lucia Field 3 Stadium, was fast-paced and exciting. However, the highlight for many people was the delicious sausages on offer.
It is believed that this was the first ever Med-Law game at UQ, and anticipation was high. A makeshift Med squad of 22, featuring players from as far afield as Bundaberg, took to the field. Our esteemed colleagues in Law also took the game seriously, starting their warm-up several hours before kickoff and even managing matching jerseys. Law were coming off a 9-3 thrashing at the hands of QUT Law, but claimed that morale was still high in their camp.
It is not this reporter’s place to comment on the actual on-field events. I seem to remember Nick R playing quite well, and possibly even scoring a goal, but that’s about it. Let’s face it, the result was never in doubt, and 4-0 at full time was a fair reflection of play.
Early reports suggest that ‘a great time was had by everyone’ and that ‘the real score was fun-all’. There is even early talk of the lawyers forcing a rematch on appeal later this year.
For the Hatchets, thoughts turned immediately to their important clash with Warriors the following day. The QIF season is heating up, and there are many more big games to come this season.
